It had a strong beginning and end, but while it wasn't the most well written book, it was still entertaining. The magic system and Big Problem to overcome was interesting enough that it kept me reading. With the inconsistent quality, characterizations and chemistry, the author additionally falls into some repetitive written vices, like everyone is shocked and staggers every few paragraphs. It might not be a book for anyone other than a casual reader.
