Fate/Zero

"Essentially a tragedy where the fatal flaws of the participants of the holy grail war ultimately cause their demise. Arrogance, utilitarianism, duty-bound obligation are some but not all of the ideas that are merciless torn asunder. Since the light novel was written by Gen Urobuchi (of Saya no Uta and Madoka Magica fame) at best things have a serious tone that can leave you speechless at worst it travels to childishly grimdark territory. If you can tolerate some of those childish moments then it’s a fine anime. The story is technically made with the idea that you’ve played the original visual novel and will know the ultimate fate of the war beforehand you’re just watching the travesty unfold but it has inadvertently become an introduction to the Fate series for anime-onlys. "
