She suspects that another American couple are not who they claim to be; her husband is acting suspiciously; and as she travels around Europe, she finds herself looking over her shoulder, increasingly terrified that her own past is catching up with her. As Kate beings to dig, to uncover the secrets of the people around her, she finds herself buried in layers of deceit so thick they threaten her family, her marriage, and her life.Hailed by The New York Times as “smartly executed [and] thoroughly captivating,” The Expats proves Chris Pavone to be a writer of tremendous talent.

"This story started out slow and confusing. I actually started it ages ago and put it down. It wasn’t until I was on vacation recently that I picked it up again and started over. I’m glad I did. I had to take my time to keep up with the story line which was at times jumbled. Once I figured it out though, I was hooked and needed to read until the end to see what happens.

There are a couple of unexpected plot twists and only one or two places where I was able to predict what would happen.

All in all, a good read."
