A New York Times “Readers’ Choice: Best Books of the 21st Century” PickThe mega-bestseller with more than 2 million readers—Now a Paramount+ with Showtime series starring Ewan McGregor as Count Alexander RostovFrom the #1 New York Times-bestselling author of The Lincoln Highway and Table for Two, a beautifully transporting novel about a man who is ordered to spend the rest of his life inside a luxury hotel In 1922, Count Alexander Rostov is deemed an unrepentant aristocrat by a Bolshevik tribunal, and is sentenced to house arrest in the Metropol, a grand hotel across the street from the Kremlin. Rostov, an indomitable man of erudition and wit, has never worked a day in his life, and must now live in an attic room while some of the most tumultuous decades in Russian history are unfolding outside the hotel’s doors. Unexpectedly, his reduced circumstances provide him entry into a much larger world of emotional discovery. Brimming with humor, a glittering cast of characters, and one beautifully rendered scene after another, this singular novel casts a spell as it relates the count’s endeavor to gain a deeper understanding of what it means to be a man of purpose.

"An interesting premise but besides the first 50 or so pages and the last 50 or so pages…everything in between in pretty bloated and I had to force myself to read it because I knew something had to come of the story. This is being made into a movie and I’m looking forward to seeing it, in hopes that it brings the boring middle part of the book to life."
"A little slow at times and overly detailed but the way the relationships were portrayed was absolutely amazing and it really touched me. Especially his relationship with Sofia, to see their father daughter relationship to develop especially after having seen her mother grow up was heartwarming. "

"I really wanted to love this book but I found it to be dull. Some parts had me hooked but a majority I found boring and somewhat painful to read. "
