Prince Harry, The Duke of Sussex
#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Discover the global phenomenon that tells an unforgettable story of love, loss, courage, and healing.“Compellingly artful . . . [a] blockbuster memoir.”—The New Yorker (Best Books of the Year)It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.For Harry, this is that story at last. Before losing his mother, twelve-year-old Prince Harry was known as the carefree one, the happy-go-lucky Spare to the more serious Heir. Grief changed everything. He struggled at school, struggled with anger, with loneliness—and, because he blamed the press for his mother’s death, he struggled to accept life in the spotlight. At twenty-one, he joined the British Army. The discipline gave him structure, and two combat tours made him a hero at home. But he soon felt more lost than ever, suffering from post-traumatic stress and prone to crippling panic attacks. Above all, he couldn’t find true love. Then he met Meghan. The world was swept away by the couple’s cinematic romance and rejoiced in their fairy-tale wedding. But from the beginning, Harry and Meghan were preyed upon by the press, subjected to waves of abuse, racism, and lies. Watching his wife suffer, their safety and mental health at risk, Harry saw no other way to prevent the tragedy of history repeating itself but to flee his mother country. Over the centuries, leaving the Royal Family was an act few had dared. The last to try, in fact, had been his mother. . . .For the first time, Prince Harry tells his own story, chronicling his journey with raw, unflinching honesty. A landmark publication, Spare is full of insight, revelation, self-examination, and hard-won wisdom about the eternal power of love over grief.

"This was very fascinating and eye opening. I highly suggest it. Of course it's one side of a story, but I really feel for anyone who has to deal with the pressure and cruelty that comes with fame, especially if you were born into it. I like that Harry read for the audiobook. It enriches the story and ensures that it's read with the tone and inflection that it was intended for. "
"I very much enjoyed the this book; as a bonus I got myself the audio and was able to listen to his voice. A few thoughts: 1) his grief over his loss of his mother was overwhelming…it transcends the pages of the book. 2) The book gives an inside view to the monarchy but doesn’t really spill a lot of details about Charles, William. There are some less than flattering stories, but nothing worse than has already been written in the British press. 3) Harry loathes the British press. I wish I could say that his hatred was uncalled for…but even if they left him alone after his mother’s death he’d have enough reason in my estimation. 4) I was surprised at how emotional I felt reading this; at times I laughed out loud and at other times I cried. Good read. 👍👍👍"

"Try this one on audible and listen to Prince Harry tell his story himself. This is a brave attempt at taking control of his narrative which has been written for him most of his life. You can feel the love he has for his country and family and how he longs for things to be different. If you approach this book with an open heart and mind you will get a lot out of it. The ghostwriter is fantastic! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️"
"I know two things. One: I’m American and therefore my thoughts on his controversy are unsolicited and probably pretty ignorant. Two: It was a very well written book."

"Oh my gosh I just started it and my heart is broken. He felt like an outsider long before he left. It was inevitable. "

"My advice to reading this book, give it 50 pages. I was extremely excited to read Prince Harry's account of his life. The reviews I read were mixed, most seeming to either love the book or on the opposite end of the spectrum, thought it to be a bore. The introduction started off strong, but it did drag after that and I felt defeated that I wasn't going to finish it. However, I always give myself 50 pages before I put a book away and I'm so glad I stuck with it. The book was witty, charming, & authentic. Harry doesn't speak ill of the Royal Family, rather he expresses his disappointments. What he endured early on and then the depth of harassment Meghan faced is heartbreaking. Especially the treatment by his own family. After reading this, they deserve the peace and tranquility they've sought after. "
