"*WARNING THIS REVIEW WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS: NO TBR PROMPT: Pre-planned buddy read with my sister*
This was really good lol. My sister and I are trying to see which reading experience is better so she's starting with Assassins Blade and I'm starting with Throne of Glass. It'll be interesting but right now, I'm enjoying my choice. I will say though the writing style is different from her ACOTAR series and Crescent City. There were many, many explanation points for alot of what was said, with both inner monologues and dialouges lol. Celaena is pretty cool, although sometimes she was a bit annoying when it came down to her talking about what she needs to do, and how she'll be able to do it. I was kind of shocked by this book not having any fae in it, it was just talked about, but I'm so used to Sarah and her books revolving around the fae, that I didn't realize it until chapter 4 I believe were I was like "Oh my gosh, they're all humans!"😱🤣. I had my suspicions about the ring having dark powers, it just seemed like that was the cause for the headaches for kat(that's what I shortened her name). So it wasn't a big reveal to me, I also already knew cain was involved with murdering the champions, and how Nehemia knew about the wrydmarks. She just kind of blew it off when asked about it so I kind of figured it out. Chaol, man, I feel like she'll end up with Dorian and chaol will just be second best. I didn't know this book had a love triangle, so that was a nice surprise lol. Hopefully nothing happens to either men because they are both amazing in their own ways but I do like chaol more to be honest, his character seems more in tune with celaena than dorains lol. Am I going to be purchasing the next 3 books? Yes. Are me and my sister only reading 1 book per month for this series? Yes, so those cliffhangers are going to kill us for the next 8 months lol."
"I’ve heard that this series is slow at the beginning but gets better after the first couple books. I am just going to hold on to that assumption moving forward because this book was slow. I liked the characters but didn’t love any of them. The romance was bland, the action was bland. The last 25% picked up enough to pique my interest and the hints and cliff hangers at the very end were interesting but this book was not super exciting. "
"4.5⭐️ This was an excellent kick off book to this series, although I know some prefer to start with The Assassin’s Blade. This story involves a strong FMC and I’m definitely getting the sense of a love triangle situation. A lot of times it seems like this kind of book consists of the FMC competing in some sort of deadly assortment of trials and this one follows that trope…but magic, mystery and evil looms in the castle, leaving you hungry to find out why.
