"3.5⭐️ I know I’ll be rewatching THE OMEN now after many many years gone by. It was my first true horror not a cheesy (though fun) monster movie. A favorite ever since, touching on themes regarding *The Church* and what constitutes evil or good within institutions for which the core dogmatic belief systems were imbedded during the dark ages. Though I had some issues, THE FIRST OMEN ultimately pays satisfying homage to the original. It truly underscores the creep factor of its power structures, indoctrination, ritualism, suppression (and here terror) of the divine nature of the feminine, having been enforced for centuries (I know..if this is offensive I’m probably not the person to follow).
So this film is impeccable, all the technicals perfect ~ acting, editing, cinematography, production design, sound, ambiance, etc etc etc. Just incredibly well done. However it didn’t deliver so much on the scares or suspense for me. I’d blame that on the script. The creepy scenes were that but too few and spread out to sustain a strong enough sense of dread and foreboding in between. I’ll admit I was kinda bored. Though the stellar production and acting, and those few disturbing sequences, held my interest enough to keep watching. Honestly the cult aspect was fascinating and if pushed further to show ritualistic physical summoning of the *dark entity* it would’ve amped up a pure chill factor to where it needed to be. Oh well.
I think if you’ve seen the original you’d know where this was going and the last 30-40 minutes are where it really delivers. Hard to watch and perhaps bile inducing, it doesn’t back down but does take it to a place that looks to set up a sequel. So if you haven’t seen The Omen I’d say watch it before OR after this one, either way. The new sequel is bound to have some connection. And to my recollection it’s probably still one of the greats. Hopefully a sequel to TFO won’t be quite so much a slow burn. But I’ll watch regardless."
"I've read many reviews on this movie that give it high praise and now that I've finally seen it, I have to agree. The whole vibe of the '70s was expertly captured and the creepy and ominous feel of the original movie was not only captured but turned up more than a couple of notches. Nell Tiger Free does an excellent job in the lead role, I was truly impressed. My fear with this movie is that it may be wasted on younger generations. That's the problem with doing a prequel for a highly rated horror original nearly 50 years later. (The Omen, 1976) I can only recommend that if you haven't seen the original, you should watch it before viewing this prequel. But I really appreciate that the filmmakers honored the original franchise, instead of just going for a money grab. 8/10"
"4.5/5⭐️ Day 12 of #Spooktober and I watched The First Omen and let me just tell you I loved it from beginning to end. Idk why I put this film off for so long well actually I do. It’s because I’ve never watch the original Omen (at least not that I can remember). The atmosphere to the casting to the score was on point. I love the fact Nell Tiger Free was chosen to play the role of Margret our main character. If you’ve watched Servant on Appletv+ then you fully understand why she was choose its just perfect for her. That scene she did in the middle of the street omg that’s one hell of a performance. I’m glad this is a prequel and now I can watch the Omen original with full context. This is definitely top 5 for horror films of 2024. #Highlyrecommend "

"This lead actress is something else. What an incredible performance. It was slightly slower in the fist half than what I wanted it to be but don’t get me wrong still worth seeing it. The scene with Margaret getting out of the car was out of this world - amazing acting by everyone. Great setting. Great costumes. Well done to this lead actress. She’s a star"

"This disturbs me almost as much as the first Excorcist movie. Added to the never watch again list 😭 I will say I do love Nell Tiger Free, talk about a freakin STUNNER! What a beauty and she’s so natural, and her acting skills are out of this world! Can’t wait to see more from her! If you’re a fan of her and haven’t yet watched Servant on Apple TV I highly recommend"
"Utter trash. I am tired of the nun movies where the entire church is full of nuts. Can we get demon movies without the Catholic church? They aren't even putting the church in for exorcisms anymore. I would like an original demon movie. I'm giving it 2 stars do to the twist at the very end."
