"This film gave me so many conflicting emotions. I can’t say I really liked it but it was a really good film. The reason why I give the film 3 stars is because I personally didn’t like it. It not a film to enjoy. That doesn’t make it a bad film though. Far from it. Great acting, beautiful scenery, good soundtrack and despite the brutality it gives the viewer a really good look into the life of a typical middle eastern household, rich or poor. The story itself is like a twisted oedipus complex mixed with a mystery that leads to a personal dark adventure of a family. Civil war, psychology, culture, religion, and so much more is all wrapped up in this little film. Also, Denis Villeneuve is the director… the film is based on a book written by a Lebanese author. Lebanon has a prominent Christian history and culture as well as Muslim. Christians make up 34 and 40% of the population. To summarize, I think this is a film that should be watched by all, Christian, Muslim, atheist, or whatever. As an orthodox Christian woman who feels very close to her own country and has a passion for history, this film struck deeply for me. I can’t stop thinking about it. "

"I’m not going to lie, it was a struggle to get through this one and I bailed the first few times I tried watching it because I just couldn’t get into it. But everyone seems to adore this movie so curiosity got the best of me and I forced myself to finish it. I wasn’t moved emotionally when I was supposed to- even at the very end. But that conclusion was great! Glad I finally powered through it to find out the big reveal. Would never rewatch though. "
