"“I’m trying to make a friend.”
Causeway is a soft spoken melancholic gorgeously layered drama. Basically about shared trauma and a unlikely bond. Jennifer Lawerence indie comeback since her breakout role in Winterbones which i think i saw but not quite sure. But I rather watch her in small scale drama then X-men or films like Passengers. Which Lawerence revealed that Adele told her not to do it and she feels she should have listened. So I guess this is her getting back to her roots. Brian Tyree Henry(FX Atlanta) is the other half of this duo that really completes this bleak viewing pleasure. He is such a phenomenal actor, my first time seeing him steal a scene was in the HBO hit show Boardwalk Empire (one of my all time favorite shows). When they are on screen together it’s basically poetry in motion in simple conversations. I think the NOLA back drop helps to play into the heart and soul of this quiet trauma drama. The pace tends to drift and it’s somewhat slow so I can understand if this isn’t for everyone. Though I rather see more of the beautiful Jennifer Lawerence in real authentic roles like this."

"An engrossing character study (reminiscent of a lot of the films made in the 1970s like FIVE EASY PIECES, SAVE THE TIGER, HARRY AND TONTO etc.). Strong screenplay and phenomenal performances by both Brian Tyree Henry (well deserved Oscar nom for him) and Jennifer Lawrence. We need more character dramas like these."
