"4.5⭐️ Loved it! George Miller created an unparalleled world also maybe the most striking! DUNE a good comparison but crisper and brighter..and campier. This is truest to original Mad Max to me (the way he speeds up frame lol). Miller at his BEST.
So Chris Hemsworth! Seriously deliciously off the rails. His motorcycle chariot is BEYOND and the superhero imagery flipped on its head pure genius! Anya Taylor Joy is well cast and her eye acting nothing short of magnetic lol. I liked that the story stays focused on the road with Furiosa and her origin and not much time spent at the Citadel.
Ok..hear me out. Much of the imagery reminded me of Priscilla Queen of the Desert. Wide red dirt Australian landscapes in panoramic shots. A close match but add in huge swaths of glorious fabric flowing off big rigs (no bus!), OTT costuming (not glammiest of drag queens but insanest of survivalist warrior wear). Switch out fraught roadtrip into unwelcoming outback towns seeking family to fraught road warfare into violent wastelands seeking resources and revenge. Either way..still about searching for hope and home. Is it a stretch?! Maybe I do reference Priscilla too much..but TELL ME if it’s a stretch!🤣 Of course not much heartfelt about Furiosa but it has its own camp and humor too. I mean Scrotus? Rictus Erectus? It IS beyond brutal, gory and revolting but deep in its abyss lies a smidge of heart. Down to basics it’s what happens when too many people are left with too few resources. The basest most primal survival instincts yes, but is it possible to hold any level of sane humanity? Does the movie answer that? Probably not. But I thought it ended the way it needed to.
“To feel alive we seek sensation. Any sensation to wash away the cranky black sorrow. And it leaves us for a moment but then it comes back and we have to do it all again. And each time we need more until too much is never enough. We ARE the Already DEAD! The question is .. do you have it in you to make it epic?” "
"This prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road is good but not quite as good as its predecessor. We get all the great action sequences, crazy vehicles and weapons, and violent deaths expected in the harsh realm of the Wastelands. But what we don't get in this one is the vibrant color palette that we saw in Fury Road, we get a more dull and washed out look to the cinematography. And the musical score is lacking in this one as well. Hemsworth does a great job as Dementus, the main villain but I felt the prosthetic nose was unnecessary. Of course, Anna Taylor Joy killed it as Furiosa, her eyes help to convey so much when there is a lack of dialogue. I'm sure most will be comparing this movie to Fury Road as I did, and realize that it pales in comparison just a little bit. Still a fun watch though. 8/10"
"
An unnecessary installment in the Mad Max series. Is one of the best prequels and almost the best Mad Max movie. Due to George Miller still being the master of the apocalypse.
Miller’s direction is fantastic. The film is visually captivating with some of the best exhilarating action I’ve ever seen.
It also might be the darkest Max film since the 1979 original."
"They made a Lore/Origin story of Furiosa in this Prequel to Mad Max Fury Road, while not as good as Fury Road they tried their best with this one, Looks like they mixed Practical effects with special effects, the sand desert- like setting give off the unique aesthetics & tone to it with Similar visuals to the previous movie. No Max in this one though, if you miss him then you'll have to wait for future installments. "
"I think this may be the easiest Mad Max movie to get into? It may take a bit to get into it, but once you're in there, you're in there. The best one imo. And definitely the best acting that I've seen from Chris Hemsworth and Anya Taylor-Joy. Will Be re-watching when it's released on streaming! And a definite recommend from me!"
