"Let me start off by saying this isn't really a good movie. However, like mold, it festers & grows on you. I'm not hyping it up well, but at the same time, it doesn't deserve a hype up. It's a fun movie that is truly trying to be progressive. They're trying to say beauty doesn't matter it's what on the inside that counts. Every kids movie has to have a message, & that one's at the forefront. Even though they still fall into the societal habit of matching an ugly man up with a beautiful girl instead of vice versa. Still, the movie is trying. But its not cute. Not in the slightest. As my animation major friend put it so perfectly, the one person who's supposed to be incredibly ugly is the best looking of the bunch. The fairy characters are creepy looking & really unpleasant to look at. Meanwhile, even the supposedly evil characters have a design that works for them. The ugly character has the best design, & honestly, overtime is the easiest on the eyes by far. Not sure how that works progressively with their message. Now for the good stuff. The story. It actually is a great story. Definitely & 1,000% made for kids, but a good story nonetheless. That's why I enjoy it. It is an awful movie to look at for all but ten minutes of the movie, but the story is kind of fun. Now for the next point, the songs. They can be awful, but that doesn't mean the singers suck. It just means they fall into the problems of Glee. Redoing songs the exact same way with a different singer & slight variations on certain parts. Basically, they'll hold certain moments out longer or shorter & change a few notes. But since we know the songs our brains don't like to have the pattern messed with. Hence the Glee conundrum. They can sing incredibly & even be better than the original, but if you've heard the song before your brain is gonna hate the changes. It's just how a human mind works. It's not a movie I ever want to watch, but when I do it's super addictive & hard to stop. Plus, it is fun."
