"We need more black perspectives in horror! This movie is not only fun but you can tell how meaningful it was to the folks making it, wanting to talk about the issues in they find their own communities through a horror lens which is always a great way to shed light on things without alienation. Horror is a universal language. "
"SO fun, a great slice of campy 90's black-directed, black-produced horror. the american flag is purposefully used in two shorts to highlight the hypocrisy of the american judicial and administrative systems with regards to black men--most memorably clutched by a 'former' KKK member like a security blanket trying to ward off his ancestral and personal karma.
the mural short feels like a homage to the original Candyman film, and that one is the most emotionally devastating wrt police brutality.
but my favorite is the monster short, with the sympathetic magic and the teacher who makes a difference by paying attention and acting on his gut instincts (not really sure why the mother was flirting with another man so hard so close to her husband coming home, but ok). the classroom design brought me right back to my elementary school years (tho we didn't have the fancy dress code)."
"I nice blend of hood and horror with meaningful plots"
