The First Omen

"I've read many reviews on this movie that give it high praise and now that I've finally seen it, I have to agree. The whole vibe of the '70s was expertly captured and the creepy and ominous feel of the original movie was not only captured but turned up more than a couple of notches. Nell Tiger Free does an excellent job in the lead role, I was truly impressed. My fear with this movie is that it may be wasted on younger generations. That's the problem with doing a prequel for a highly rated horror original nearly 50 years later. (The Omen, 1976) I can only recommend that if you haven't seen the original, you should watch it before viewing this prequel. But I really appreciate that the filmmakers honored the original franchise, instead of just going for a money grab. 8/10"

"Filled with body horror and a few well-done demonic scares, this movie delves into the sadistic world of a church desperate to keep it's power and what they will do to the women in their care. Really unsettling, this horror movie has some grotesque scenes of birth, SA, and torture. The actors are so deeply talented that this movie was, at times, hard to watch. The last 45 minutes are packed with action, so I recommend bearing with it for the first part of the movie and paying attention to little details. I was able to predict the twist of this film around 20 minutes in, but that doesn't mean it's not a good twist. Would've been a 5 star movie, but after you learn the twist you realize that certain plot points were convoluted and unnecessary, in hindsight. Shout out to some fascinating commentary on gender and sexism in this."

"At first I was hesitant because it was slow, however it grabbed my attention and by the end I was loving every minute. I loved the way it ended in conversation text with the original movies. There are a billion different ways it could go and I'm down to watch them all ! "
