"SO. GOOD. The cinematography is outstanding, particularly very cool transitions. This show is dope afffffffff I don’t even think you need to be a fan of the genre to enjoy it. It is definitely not just about fight choreo (although that aspect is sick). The acting is nothing short of f*ing great, the story is really cool, and honestly I don’t even want to give y’all any backstory, just know these mfs KILLIN IT AND PLEASE WATCH"
"It's now something I kind of just play in the background, but it does have the right ingredients for a binge-able martial arts - historical fiction series. At first it seemed to be overly reliant on nudity and sex scenes, but later it looks like it shifted more focus towards the plot as the seasons progress."
"This show is excellent!
I wasn’t sure going into it if I am going to be enjoying it and I absolutely love it.
As a historical drama it’s a very interesting story.
It’s beautifully shot with an amazing cast.
Andrew Koji is magnificent as a lead and literally speaks with his body. Perfectly choreographed, the fight scenes are not only beautiful but full of meaning. Great score.
Many issues are explored that are still alive today as they were 200 years ago: racism, immigration, misogyny and class divide.
Highly recommend!
CW: very bloody with plenty of sex and body parts.

"My dad convinced me to sit and watch this with him. I'm so glad he did; I love historical movies and shows. This occurred after the Civil War, after the U.S. gained California, and San Francisco was still building itself up. With much racism against the Chinese, they offered cheap labor to help build the city. The Irish received fewer jobs. There’s so much more but it's such a good show. "
"A slow burn but pays off in a big way. I'm a sucker for a good martial arts show/movie and this is most definitely one of them. While the 1st season is a bit slow, the second season really picks up the pace as far as the action goes. Not the most superb acting but it's solid, so is the writing. The star of this show is the action and does a nice job telling the stories of how Asians struggled to fit in a prejudiced America in the late 1800s. "
"Easily one of the best shows on tv! It’s like Tarantino and Scorsese came together to direct a kung-fu/gangster combination of Gangs of New York and Enter the Badlands with fantastic fight choreography, general cinematography and performances all around. Not to mention a primo soundtrack and excellent writing derived from Bruce Lee himself. Don’t know how I just found out about this, but I hope a lot more people do so soon, because this could and should be among the next top tier HBO staples."
"Excellent series! Incredible acting and great action scenes. "
