The Cage

"NowI'm going to get a little nitpicky with this review. And that's only because I watch MMA and Combat Sports pretty regularly. As well as have a passion for it and the fighters within it in and out of the sport. First, I'd like to start with the positives. There's a lot to like here. I have to say this is the most realistic true to life fight choreography I have seen in a while. You can tell just how much the people behind this show take great care of making this look gritty, technical, and hard-hitting as it does in real life. The camera work just amplifies the feeling of being in the cage, the stressors that come with that, and everything in between. Individual presentation is some of the best production work I have seen in a long time. And as a hardcore MMA fan, I' very much appreciate they took the time to include cameos from real life Fighters, and I'm very much appreciate the use of real life venues. The acting is spectacular. Just as an FYI, this is a French language production. But there is a dub. which, in my opinion, is atrocious. But it may be decent enough for you if you don't like reading subtitles. Now on to the things I didn't like very much. I'm very strongly didn't like the depiction of some characters. These depictions lend themselves to people being scared or all around ignorant of the actual sport. Yes, there are some scary individuals that participate, but nowadays, they are few and far between. However, this show starts with the aggression right off the back and cranks it to unnecessary levels at times. I also don't like how it puts the very illegal and very unpleasant concept of fight fixing and taking Dives to the Forefront of the plot at one point. That does happen in real life, but not that this degree. Some of the fictionalization is off-putting. I understand that this is done for dramatic effect. All in all, I had fun with this one, but it could have been better."
