For fans of The 7 1⁄2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle and David Mitchell, a genre bending, time twisting alternative history that asks whether it's worth changing the past to save the future, even if it costs you everyone you've ever loved.Joe Tournier has a bad case of amnesia. His first memory is of stepping off a train in the nineteenth-century French colony of England. The only clue Joe has about his identity is a century-old postcard of a Scottish lighthouse that arrives in London the same month he does. Written in illegal English-instead of French-the postcard is signed only with the letter “M,” but Joe is certain whoever wrote it knows him far better than he currently knows himself, and he's determined to find the writer. The search for M, though, will drive Joe from French-ruled London to rebel-owned Scotland and finally onto the battle ships of a lost empire's Royal Navy. Swept out to sea with a hardened British sea captain named Kite, who might know more about Joe's past than he's willing to let on, Joe will remake history, and himself. From bestselling author Natasha Pulley, The Kingdoms is an epic, romantic, wildly original novel that bends genre as easily as it twists time.

"Not sure how I feel about this yet. I found this confusing and at times frustrating. What saves this for me is the relationship between the two main characters and their interesting dynamic. I also enjoyed the genre bender fun; alternate history, time travel, fantasy, LGBTQ representation, adventure, war, and romance. "

"i predicted that this book would be five stars before i knew practically anything about it, and i wasn't wrong. it is absolutely a five star book, and also somehow not at all what i expected. if you had told me this book takes place mostly on warships and is largely About a War, i’m not sure i would've picked it up as easily. but i am so glad i did. i haven't wanted to do anything else but read this for the past week. even in the time spent not reading, i was thinking about this damn book and how much i wished i was reading it right then. in short, it's consumed my whole being for days. much of my headspace was occupied by the mystery of joe's identity, and though i feel this is a book made to be reread, i think doing so knowing all that i know now would wreck me even more thoroughly. i finished this yesterday, woke up this morning dreaming fanfiction for it, and thus have spent the entire day reading kingdoms fic. i already feel empty without it."

"Good story... Very slow in getting going, but its a good story once it gets going. With time travel and tough decisions, it's worth the weight for it to get going. "

"Time-traveling historic revisionist queer love stories aren't for everyone but the required patience is worth the reward."
