A NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLERA Today Show #ReadwithJenna Book Club PickA propulsive and uncommonly wise novel about one unexpected wedding guest and the surprising people who help her start anew. It’s a beautiful day in Newport, Rhode Island, when Phoebe Stone arrives at the grand Cornwall Inn wearing a green dress and gold heels, not a bag in sight, alone. She’s immediately mistaken by everyone in the lobby for one of the wedding people, but she’s actually the only guest at the Cornwall who isn’t here for the big event. Phoebe is here because she’s dreamed of coming for years—she hoped to shuck oysters and take sunset sails with her husband, only now she’s here without him, at rock bottom, and determined to have one last decadent splurge on herself. Meanwhile, the bride has accounted for every detail and every possible disaster the weekend might yield except for, well, Phoebe and Phoebe's plan—which makes it that much more surprising when the two women can’t stop confiding in each other. In turns absurdly funny and devastatingly tender, Alison Espach’s The Wedding People is ultimately an incredibly nuanced and resonant look at the winding paths we can take to places we never imagined—and the chance encounters it sometimes takes to reroute us.

"It took me a while to really get into this book, but once I did I ended up loving it! It was beautifully written, and very deep. It was quite humorous, but it does deal with some pretty heavy topics, so check the trigger warnings! There was something very likable about the main character, and the setting was beautiful. Not my usual read, but definitely worth it!"

"Totally different than my typical reads but I was so hooked. An English professor with a marriage that just ended stays at a resort that is supposed to be reserved entirely for a wedding party. Her life begins when she thinks it’s about to end! "

"Fun read! I think Phoebe and Lila were both so likable-would have loved to know how their friendship looked like after the wedding cancellation. "

"The Wedding People is one of those books that feels like cool shower after a day at the beach. It’s comforting, predictable and somehow magically new. I loved our main character Phoebe and was with her every step of her journey. The plot itself was cute — I too would love to show up at a luxury hotel and be plopped into someone else’s wedding (all expenses covered, of course.) this book was good for the soul. An easy read too. "

"As a woman nearing 40, who is just about constantly doubting herself, this really resonated with me. It deals with hard subjects with just the right amount of humor to balance it out. I laughed, I cried, and I closed the book feeling very peaceful. I highly recommend. "
