"Basically a continuation of the 1st book but much less exciting. Throughout the book, I would forget that it was supposed to be a fantasy because of how soap-opera-like it was.
It was almost like every interaction between the leads would inevitably end up as either a fight or a misunderstanding. And I felt like the story was basically just a girl choosing her royal duties over a loved one which you don’t see often; but reading this, I now know why.
As for the ending, it felt a little like a cop-out. It made sense but at the same time, it didn’t? It’s almost like the writing of someone who has stayed up till 3am in the morning after 5 hours of homework then decided to pick up a pencil and write a story; it just doesn’t flow nicely or really connect.
All in all, at least I’m able to say that I read it. And while I did accidentally leave it on the floor for my rabbit to chew, I’m not mad😅"
"The first book of this duology was amazing so I decided to read this book as well. It starts out very slow and the book itself is much less interesting as the first book, but if your a fan of the first book, be sure to finish reading this one. Although the book itself is rather frustrating, the ending is worth it"
"While I strive to avoid spoilers, I want to share my thoughts on this book. I decided to read it because a friend and I embarked on a buddy read with its predecessor. I committed to finishing the story so I could discuss it with her. Additionally, I must emphasize that the author's writing style is truly beautiful, as I mentioned in my review of "The Queen's Assassin." However, when it comes to the plot, I found it lacking. A significant portion of the book is dedicated to the main characters' constant complaints about their separation. The story's substance only emerges in the final third of the book. Had the lingering questions from the first book been answered, I might have given this one a 2.5-star rating. There were elements introduced in the first book that, if further explored in the sequel, could have elevated it to a great story. Unfortunately, that was not the case. Lastly, I must express my disappointment with the ending of the book. While I understand it's a work of fiction, I found it rather unsatisfying."
"This Cover is absolutely gorgeous! It pairs perfectly with the first book in this series THE QUEEN’S ASSASSIN. I really enjoyed the first novel, I enjoyed it when I read it a year ago, and I enjoyed it even more recently after having listened to the audiobook version. I highly recommend reading/listening to it before tackling The Queen’s Secret.

In doing my best to not give any spoilers, The Queen’s Secret dives deeper into the relationship between Lilac and Cal that we were introduced to in the first book. I felt like it was more focused on they character development as individuals, and well as their relationship. It was heart breaking at moments (read it to find out why). I appreciated the in depth writing, and the magical world surrounding the story. I can’t wait to listen to this audiobook version as well.

If you’re a fan of titles like, An Ember in the Ashes, and Caraval, this one’s for you!!"
