"This was so cute! It wasn’t quite as good as the Selection (that’s more because of nostalgia) but it was better than I expected. My only two complaints would be that even though it was almost 600 pgs the romance was a little bit instalove-y, and that the worldbuilding confused me at times. Still super good tho!! 4/5"

"I read Kierra Cass’ Selection series as a teen and absolutely adored them. This book is no different. The world she creates is easy to fall into and the dual perspective really adds to the dynamics. Annika is such an amazing character, with enough rebellious spirit while still caring about her kingdom over herself. Lennox has such growth through the story and I love how the two characters come together. I adore the quote “Love has a sound. It sounds like a thousand heartbeats happening at the same time.” I was happily surprised when there were twists I didn’t expect, but were really well incorporated. The romance didn’t go beyond kissing and cuddling (0/5🌶) but really built a sweet romance. Really excellent read for all ages!"

"I enjoyed this book for what it was. It’s a romance for sure but the romance part doesn’t come until you’re more than halfway done with the book. The whole beginning of the book is making you like each of the characters for who they are. I think the author is trying to make you like both of them for themselves and then like them for each other. But it’s a good fantasy novel for sure! "

"As a fantasy young adult romance this is 4.7 stars. The ending felt rushed in parts and certain characters were a bit random due to underdevelopment. Otherwise, it was basically perfect. The writing is strong. The main characters are well written and well developed. As a beauty and the beast inspired story this is five stars. No magic. No enchantress. But the primary elements are there. A beautiful heart teaching a closed off beastly heart to open itself to love and vulnerability. "
