"I'm so happy that I discovered Meyer through Gilded (thought to be a stand-alone at the time) and Heartless. She is quickly becoming a favorite of mine. This book also made me realize that I'm a horrible Wonderland fan after I read the Alice books directly after this. I feel that Catherine made a decision that was more understandable than in a typical "villain" origin story. It's one I could see others making if these magicks were available to them in the real world. Meyer is able to write incredibly charming love interests and that and her absolute absorption in the world of the fairytale is what gets you to read huge chunks at a time."

"Great characters and plot. Although the story could’ve gone soooo much deeper than it was. The relationship between Jest and Cath went fast and by the time the prophecy is fulfilled on Jest’s part, I feel I didn’t get to wallow in sadness long enough. Don’t get me wrong, this is a great stand alone novel, I just feel the ending was way too rushed. As the reader, we don’t get enough time to stain the end of the book with tears before we have to refocus on the next scene. Great book, could’ve been better."
