Roald Dahl
Roald Dahl's beloved novel hit the big screen in July 2016 in a major motion picture adaptation directed by Steven Spielberg from Amblin Entertainment and Walt Disney Pictures. When Sophie is snatched from her orphanage bed by the BFG (Big Friendly Giant), she fears she will be eaten. But instead the two join forces to vanquish the nine other far less gentle giants who threaten to consume earth’s children. This beautiful edition of Dahl's classic features the original illustrations by Quentin Blake.

"Now reaching more height due to its movies success, The BFG was a classic way before it was ever adapted to the big screen. This is the story of Sophie, and young and small girl who was kidnapped by a giant, but not just any giant, he was the big friendly giant unlike the giants she had heard about. Sophie hears that the other not so nice giants are capturing and eating children, Sophie wants to stop them once and for all with the help of her new friendly acquaintance. Together they must team together to protect the children of England. <br/> What I love most about Roald Dahl’s work, is how he is able to incorporate his English roots into such a whimsical novel. How he is able to come up with such nonsense words and inventive stories. Like most of Dahl’s work, I feel that this could be a great use for literacy nonsense work, but also for read aloud pleasure. I see this being used in upper elementary, both by students and by teachers. <br/>"
