From the New York Times bestselling author of The Push, a propulsive page-turner about four families whose lives are changed when the unthinkable happens—and what is lost when we give in to our own worst impulses“Nobody delves as deep into the guts of motherhood as Ashley Audrain, she really is in a league of her own.” —Lisa JewellOn Harlow Street, the well-to-do neighborhood couples and their children gather for a catered barbecue as the summer winds down; drinks continue late into the night.Everything is fabulous until the picture-perfect hostess explodes in fury because her son disobeys her. Everyone at the party hears her exquisite veneer crack—loud and clear. Before long, that same young boy falls from his bedside window in the middle of the night. And then, his mother can only sit by her son’s hospital bed, where she refuses to speak to anyone, and his life hangs in the balance. What happens next, over the course of a tense three days, as each of these women grapple with what led to that terrible night?Exploring envy, women’s friendships, desire, and the intuitions that we silence, The Whispers is a chilling novel that marks Audrain as a major women's fiction talent.

"I really loved the push! This book fell flat for me. It’s very depressing, but there’s not much happening outside of the inner dialogue. I was intrigued by some of the plot points though. Maybe read this at a different time than right after reading the push since the push blows everything I’ve read this year out of the water it’s hard not to compare. "

"I could not put this one down. There is so much going on in these women’s lives and the culmination of one night changes everything. "

"Overall, good read. I read this in two days. It was a bit hard to keep track of the characters. Felt somewhat similar The Push but not as much of a thriller. "

"Weird descriptions in this book. Also, so many pages read to bring us on a certain path but then we realize we had it all wrong and that was a waste of time. Didn't get the whole dynamic with Mara and her son. Why tell us about that?? Ending leaves you wondering.... anyway wouldn't suggest it. "
"it didn’t fully grab my attention especially with all of the characters that were introduced to in the first chapter. it was a bit confusing until it started unraveling towards the end but i didn’t really get enough of the mystery/thriller vibe as i was hoping to. "
