"I was lukewarm about continuing this series after the first book. Really liked the world building and battle scenes but was not invested in the characters. Listened to this one versus reading the first one and that made a huge difference . Halfway through I started liking the characters. Can see this becoming a favorite series and am eagerly looking forward to the next book."

John Gwynne was able to make not only the characters, but also the world building, develop even further in this sequel. For days after reading this, I would reach for my kindle excited to get back into the book, until I remembered I'd already finished it. I just wanted more. "
