But then we never think about food more than when we are hungry and we never think about life rafts more than when we are thrown overboard.”Don’t miss Matt Haig’s new novel The Life Impossible, coming September 2024 THE COMFORT BOOK is Haig’s life raft: it’s a collection of notes, lists, and stories written over a span of several years that originally served as gentle reminders to Haig’s future self that things are not always as dark as they may seem. Incorporating a diverse array of sources from across the world, history, science, and his own experiences, Haig offers warmth and reassurance, reminding us to slow down and appreciate the beauty and unpredictability of existence.

"Genuinely comforting book -- not in a shallow "everything will be okay" two dollar greeting card sort of way. Written by an author who has lived through those dark, mental doldrums and knows the kind of comfort that's needed. The chapters are really short so if you're experiencing a down moment where you can't do any mental heavy lifting, then pick up this book. It'll help. Also, I totally recommend the audiobook. It's author-read, which makes the vitality of the writing come through. I'm about to go through it a second time!"

"This book is like a giant bear hug or a warm cup of tea on a cold night. Absolutely love it. Definitely helps when you're feeling low or in a funk. Much love ❤️ "

"My favorite line I’ve been turning over and over in my head is the one that says something like “Better to let others down than blow yourself up”"

"It was incredible! I loved it! I may re read it a couple times more. I like how each one is different not just a small little poem of basically the same thing the whole time."

"This book truly was a comfort with so many tidbits of wisdom. The way it was written also made it easy to digest and take things in, little by little."

"I love the simple purpose of this book. It's one that I appreciate so much more because of where I've been with my mental health. Its simple, yet profound, message is wonderful. It is the type of book you keep on your shelf and pull out on occasion so that you remember how important and meaningful life is."

"Matt Haig is a brilliant author. His newest book, like all his books, is insightful, profound, sometimes silly, sometimes sad, but wonderful all throughout. "

"I finished this a few hours ago and I know there are some knowledge nuggies that I will be chewing on for years to come. It was a difficult read at some points because some stories or content doesn't apply to me at this moment, Overall I enjoyed it and will reference it from time to time. "
