From the acclaimed author of Boyfriend Material comes a delightfully witty romance featuring a reserved duke who's betrothed to one twin and hopelessly enamoured of the other. Valentine Layton, the Duke of Malvern, has twin problems: literally. It was always his father's hope that Valentine would marry Miss Arabella Tarleton. But, unfortunately, too many novels at an impressionable age have caused her to grow up...romantic. So romantic that a marriage of convenience will not do and after Valentine's proposal she flees into the night determined never to set eyes on him again. Arabella's twin brother, Mr. Bonaventure "Bonny" Tarleton, has also grown up...romantic. And fully expects Valentine to ride out after Arabella and prove to her that he's not the cold-hearted cad he seems to be. Despite copious misgivings, Valentine finds himself on a pell-mell chase to Dover with Bonny by his side. Bonny is unreasonable, overdramatic, annoying, and...beautiful? And being with him makes Valentine question everything he thought he knew. About himself. About love. Even about which Tarleton he should be pursuing.

"I feel like it could have been better without the character Arabella. she frustrated me so much and if it wasn’t for valentine and Bonny, I probably would not have finished it. it’s not a bad story and a lot of it is silly though I do admire an escape book. I didn’t enjoy this as much as boyfriend material which is staggering since I love period pieces. it’s not bad per say but I do think Bonny’s sister almost takes away from the story and at least for me, I was focused on how much she annoyed me. I’d say a 4/5 at best. "

"I started this out by not knowing how I would appreciate it. I started reading a lady for a duke by Alexis hall and it is a bit more dry and so I decided that if I was going to read the second book which has a Non-binary character (Peggy) I needed to read the first one. This book surprised me with how cheesy it was! First of all the situations Valentine ends up in are so convoluted that it is like we’re in a farce! lol even though he Insists he is the Duke of malvern, his dukedom is constantly questioned and challenged. The way he figures out his sexuality is actually quite interesting because he spends the day after his failed attempt at a proposal trying to find his fiancé-to-be. He goes on the quest with Bonnie(Bonaventure) Tarlton. Bonnie and Arabella (Valentine’s would-be fiancé) are twins, so they go out to find Arabella and Bonnie ends up disclosing that he falls in love with and fucks gentlemen. Valentine is kind of curious but also kind of confused because societal norms. So he figures out he’s attracted to the male form when Bonnie approaches an ostler and asks him for help and he offers him sex in exchange for information. Valentine walks into the stables, and sees Bonnie with his legs over his head getting his ass eaten out…. And he says to himself subconsciously “I think I’d like to do that with Bonnie” AND THEN 3 CHAPTERS LATER HE DOES THAT TO BONNIE! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 We love a story about latent homosexuality!!! Especially when it takes place in 19th century Britain!!! This book is steamy, funny, and Bonnie Tarlton is a cutie! He is literally so pure yet so ******* dirty lmaoooo! It’s interesting because he has a very big heart and spent his childhood reading fairy tales and so him finding Valentine after their shared childhoods together is so perfect as an ending!!"

"Soooo I did the audiobook version and while I liked the narrator for Valentine and the actual text part, I did not enjoy many of the voices he did for all the other characters. that kinda took me out of it.

Next I didn't like any characters other than Valentine. Bonnie is tolerable to an extent but his sister is actually a horrible person with no self awareness. How did Valentine get painted the villain of the story when he was the most reasonable out of everyone?! I really can't get over how they were mad he broke a chair by accident when he was TIED TO THE CHAIR! like obviously he's gonna struggle and try to get out of the chair he's being held against his will for literally trying to take Arabella home safe with her brother! and then they locked him in the cellar like what is wrong with everyone especially Arabella. from the prologue she was awful and she faces no consequences throughout the book. Girl I get that you don't want to get married but there was no need to try and flee the country, they really could've talked this out because Valentine didn't want to marry her either. I basically just didn't like how the story revolved around her even tho we're following Valentine and Bonnie most of the time and she's just a mean character that I truly can't feel bad for.

Anyways, the writing was interesting in a kind of annoying way? there was one moment where that esquire man and everyone kept listing off these insults about Valentine and that was annoying but I see how it was supposed to be comedic. I only read Glitterland by this author and I remember enjoying it but this one was def a hate-read as I was getting towards the end.

Edit: I should say I was going into this book with the best intentions and there were moments where I did genuinely laugh about how ridiculous it is so that's why it's not 1 star. I did laugh at times."
