a.davu shared a tip "☆☆☆☆ 4/5. Engaging story and interesting magic system. Sanderson does am impeccable job at following his own magic rules during fight scenes. Like his other books, much of it is dialog, though appreciatively, with much more action than Warbreaker. Characters are likeable but could have more dynamic personalities other than static face reactions with all the dialog we read. Epecially so with his female MC. She has character dev. but still acts cut and dry. Badass fem =/= strong fem."

Each character has such a unique voice that I’m able to remember so many of them very clearly, even though it’s been several years since I’ve read the books. I also really enjoyed the simple eloquence of the magic - I remember how satisfying it was that everything was so well balanced :)"

The characters are so consistent you can anticipate how some will react to things. Sanderson can write awesome fight scenes. There were the perfect amount of plot points I could figure out on my own and ones that blew me away. Will definitely be continuing the series."

Most recently I finished reading Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor, much like Sanderson this book focuses on great characters! So if you have any fantasy recommendations with amazing characters let me know!"

marisa_myers shared a tip "His Cosmere universe is amazing. It's basically the marvel universe style of writing. My favorite of his series is the Stormlight Archives. But I'd recommend his current standalone novels of Warbreaker or Elantris before diving into one of his series. Each has their own unique magic system and I'd classify more as fantasy than sci fi"

This is the type of book you could easily feel confident in recommending to just about anyone, not just fantasy enthusiasts. Also, this is a great jumping point into Brandon Sanderson's "The Cosmere", the universe that most of his fantasy books share."

He really explores those magic systems, always coming up with new ways to manipulate them (this makes the sequels really fun to read). His characters are lovable- I particularly love Vin’s character in this trilogy. Brandon’s storylines are fun and his plot twists are excellent because he tries not to get caught up in common tropes. I can confidently recommend any of his works."

I think the character development really makes the story moreso than the setting! Really easy to burn through these books compared to other series imo."
