If I normally don’t like YA, am I likely to dislike this one? I would usually only read older YA (e.g. Jules Verne), if anything, but I did like the Alex & Eliza trilogy and A Wrinkle in Time

Sarah Brown I am not a huge fan of YA (I did not like Adaptation by the same author lol) but I really enjoyed this one. It's a really thoughtful character exploration and the romance is kind of secondary.

Bepis No. It’s not like what you might typically find in YA, and certainly not stylistically written like most YA is. Really, the only thing it has in common with a lot of YA is that the main character and love interest are teenagers, though both are about to graduate high school. I highly recommend it for its prose, its commentary on what it means to be a lesbian and Chinese, and its historical value in terms of 1950s America experienced by a queer Chinese-American girl and her family.

lydia spano It’s very mature for a YA. Very emotional and serious
