Topic: Run Lola Run
Just watched Run Lola Run and I’m not really sure what it’s about. Like thematically. What do you think?

Brandon Reed It's about the unpredictability of fate and how little control we really have over our lives. In the main narrative, we see Lola and Manni go through three separate versions of the same twenty-ish minutes. In the first two, one of the two ends up dead, and the other presumably goes to prison. In the last, they both survive and end up with a small fortune. What's the variable? Lola's pace, timing, and attitude along her run are affected by what the hoodlum on the stairs and his dog do. In the first, the dog growls at her and frightens her. In the second, the kid trips her, slowing her down and causing her to limp. In the third, the dog lunges at her, forcing her to jump over it and ticking her off. This variable, which seems inconsequential, leads to wildly different outcomes. It also has a ripple effect on the people she encounters on her runs. A bank worker either ends her life or marries a teller depending on the indirect consequences of Lola's actions at the bank, for instance.

Brandon Reed It just occurred to me that the security guard at the bank alludes to the good ending in the second run. I think it's just before she robs the bank. He says something like, "A little anger is good for the circulation."
