Isolated from the outside world, fifteen-year-old Lara lives in seclusion on a vast country estate with her father and strict governess Miss Fontaine. Late one evening, a mysterious carriage crash brings a young girl into their home to recuperate. Lara immediately becomes enchanted by this strange visitor who arouses her curiosity and awakens her burgeoning desires.

"I love the Gothic feel of this film that is portrayed through its soundtrack, beautiful visuals, and pacing. The acting is also really good, especially the actress for Carmilla who so perfectly portrayed the devious, seductive nature of her character. I haven't read the novella yet but I think this movie did a good job of translating the intention of Le Fanu's work given the time period."
