In December 2004, close-knit family Maria, Henry and their three sons begin their winter vacation in Thailand. But the day after Christmas, the idyllic holiday turns into an incomprehensible nightmare when a terrifying roar rises from the depths of the sea, followed by a wall of black water that devours everything in its path. Though Maria and her family face their darkest hour, unexpected displays of kindness and courage ameliorate their terror.

"understanding medicine the dramatization was just too corny. sorry but being impaled, having seaweed in your lungs and having a giant open hole in your leg soaking in septic water for days on end and you just miraculously survive a life threatening surgery. it was completely deus ex machina and I felt did a disservice to the story of this tragedy. add on the whitewashing and lack of thai actors I feel it was really disrespectful to the fallen. should have been a 3-hour film and much more complex. "
