"Just started the Bryan Burrough book on the greater culture and context of the years 1933-34, the cluster of criminals turning from the effects of the Depression and families becoming homeless, mistrust in the banks and Washington, many of these criminals voting feeling victimized by local authorities in what they considered survival. I just wish it was more like a Ballad of Buster Scruggs collection of vignettes than a whole drama of Dillinger's criminal exploits and relationship. My friend noticed that it features director Michael Mann's unique touches and characteristics of utilizing a faster shutter speed in filming for a more realistic, puts-you-there docudrama feel. The book provide a collection of mini-portraits of both all the main players in these gangs plus the big players in the Bureau of Investigation, gunning for the sanctioning from Washington in securing the bid to develop a national, more interconnected justice system. So Johnny Depp can be seen to slightly resemble Dillinger, but Matthew McConaughey I think would fit the look of head SAC of Chicago, Purvis. It was interesting comparing notes to what of the details from Burroughs panoramic study Mann did decide to include. Average film, nothing standout. "
