"This one has the exact problem the 3rd Raimi movie does, too many villains and they're just not done well. It's sad because Andrew really could of done a great job if the script was great. This movie would be completely irredeemable if it wasn't for Garfield himself and Emma Stone being great actors, that clocktower scene never fails to bring a tear to my eye. This movie is the hardest to watch out of any of the big budget Spiderman movies, but it's still a must watch."
"Rewatched this a year or 2 ago and remember actually enjoying it. I feel like if they didn’t throw green goblin at the last second it definitely would have been better. Still messy for sure though. Electro is a good villain I don’t think it was done that well but his motivation is a lot more justified than anyone else. His transformation scene and basically every scene with him is so visually appealing. I liked the Gwen Stacy storyline it was a little rushed at times but still good. His suit is good. I still prefer his amazing spider-man 1 suit because the design felt very fresh. Love that suit. Still bummed that they didn’t use that in no way home. Toby and Andrew’s suits just look too similar. "This movie is so infuriating & not for the way you think.
So many nostalgic held bent fans hated the idea of a new spider man, so this franchise was always doomed to fail. Yet when it chose to go another way it didn't stick with it. Instead, all those angry fanboys managed to sway the writers of this franchise to change their plans in order for them to give the fans what they want in a third movie. Yet in the process destroyed what this franchise attempted to create & make everyone mad in the process. Both new fans, & those they didn't even win over in the 1st movie. They didn't stick it out & make a great movie, they just gave us a movie that worked for their goals.
I will admit the ending is well done though & touching.
Here's the SPOILERS.
Gwen dies. The worst part is she dies in multiple ways. They keep teasing you with her death or departure then suddenly you have time to think of something since the web is two slots away from the gear, then all of a sudden it's in between the gear despite Spidey putting his foot in the way. If his foot isn't crushed, neither should the web, but no, they had to get rid of Gwen to introduce fan favorite MJ in the 3rd. It's ridiculous.
They threw it away because they wanted to set them up for failure & give the comic fans what they already got in comics & original spider man movies. Like let us have this one & see what they create people! He is a dark spider man so having another death makes sense but he already had 2 in the 1st movie. Give him a break.
Now the villains. Max is subpar & crazy but then immediately tossed to the side. Harry was a slow build then a roaring flame that was extinguished in 2 seconds. All in order to kill Gwen off. Don't get me wrong, it was powerful & emotional, but you could've paralyzed her & had a whole new interesting relationship. Instead, they let Captain Stacey be a warning throughout, then destroy it all.
I also hate what this means for Aunt May considering she's last one Spidey loves."
"4/5*s
Lots going on in this one, much like Spider-Man 3 with Tobey. Spidey has to take on Electro and New Goblin, while Peter is dealing with his guilt in not honoring Gwen's father's final wishes, to stay away from Gwen for her safety. It's a devastating movie that was supposed to preceed a third and fourth installment in the Garfield series. Those two movies didn't happen, as you know, so we don't get to see the vision and outcome of this series. That is really upsetting because it sounded really cool. I believe Garfield was disenchanted with the direction the franchise was going. He is quoted saying, "What I’ll proudly say is that I didn’t compromise who I was, I was only ever myself. And that might have been difficult for some people.”
Regardless of all that drama, I did enjoy this movie. It was very sad but would have led to new characters, which I'm sorry we won't ever get to meet."
"The theme of time and its brevity is great. Electro is annoying sometimes, but he is a decent antagonist. I love the music and the fun action."
