This unexpectedly ended up being my favourite of the series. There’s something about Nesta’s story that resonated in a way that Feyre’s never did. Don’t get me wrong, I love Feysand (though their storyline in this book was frustrating on many levels 🙄) but Feyre’s story didn’t force me to take a harsh look at my own struggles and shortcomings the way Nesta’s story did. The character arc is definitely the strength here rather than the plot so keep that in mind. (Also the 🌶 level is notably higher than other books in the series so take that as you will.)

I wasn’t a big fan of this book until the last 100ish pages. For some reason I’ve always preferred third person narration over first person so that contributed to the struggle, but in general I just wasn’t very interested in the plot initially. By the end I was flying through the pages, desperate to see what would happen and then quickly proceeded to read books 2 and 3 in a matter of days. I enjoyed those more than the first one.
