I liked Ruth’s account of life in Arkansas and it opened my eyes to women in secretarial positions still being expected to provide sexual favors for the job. I certainly knew this about some earlier decades, but the 80s? Surprising! Unfortunately the anti-gay attitudes didn’t surprise me but did remind me of the progress that has been made in the last 40 years on that front.

It’s modem and with flawed characters that you cannot help but root for.
