"For those that love and miss Peaky Blinders, this Hulu original series should scratch that itch. Set in the 1880s in the East End of London, we follow two immigrant friends from Jamaica, Hezekiah and Alec, who test their luck in bare knuckle boxing in the most brutal pubs and back alleys which eventually leads to legitimate boxing contests surrounded by the upper class of London. Along the way, they are helped by the Queen of the Forty Elephants, an all female criminal enterprise and opposed by Sugar Goodson, a seasoned bare knuckle fighter, played to perfection by Stephen Graham, who feels threatened by Hezekiah. There is high production value in this 6 episode series where everything looks and feels authentic for the time period. Filled with intrigue and great story telling and top notch acting across the board, I was disappointed that the first season wasn't longer. But I'm looking forward to future seasons. 9/10"
"So I just finished watching this absolute Banger of a show! First, I want to get into what drew me about this show initially. That was the story of a boxer from Jamaica. Being both a Combat Sports Fan and from the Caribbean. You always get so stoked when they choose to tell an immigrant story from a new unexplored perspective. The narrative crafted around this based on true events story is so captivating. Next, I want to get into the fight choreography. Although not the main focus of the show, and I wasn't alive during the 1800s 😄😄😄 they did an excellent job showing the love and chemistry between coach and pupil. And there's this added layer of them being friends and arriving to London together. It's just so authentic, and I would imagine that this is how it was during that time. Especially when it came to transition to glove to boxing AKA Queensbury rules. From the hard-nosed gritty and grinding world of bare knuckle boxing. The environment and set dressing make it really feel like down and dirty London. You really do feel as if you were in the trenches watching this show. This was originally intended to be a miniseries, but it's proven to be so popular that season 2 is starting to become a real possibility. The first six episodes of the show on a to be continued cliffhanger. And given the state of TV shows nowadays, I would really love for this show to have a prolonged life. Not to outstay it's welcome but have the opportunity to tell a full and satisfying story. It seems to have found a big enough audience. But you never know nowadays. Hulu, please give us more of this show! Fans of peaky blinders and I would also say fans of taboo. You should really check this show out! And if you are a comeback Sports Die Hard like I am. Come on and check it out as well."
