"I'm surprised I didn't review this. It must be because I watched it before I started making my yearly lists of things I watched.
I watched it and loved it so much, I watched it again with my daughter, who also loved it! Sadly, they chose to cancel the show due to covid and also the insurance needed for such high-risk action scenes. If you've ever watched "fake" wrestling, you will know just how real it is. They choreograph the moves, but it's extremely dangerous even so. Anyway, there was still at least one more good season of storytelling left to tell. This show gives me one of my biggest feelings of loss, having not seen the rest of what was there to be told.
The cast was EXCEPTIONAL! Alison Brie & Betty Gilpin were fabulous as the "bad guy" and "good guy" (respectively) in both the show and in the wrestling ring. Although Alison isn't quite a bad guy outside of the ring but don't tell Betty that or she might piledrive you. Gayle Rankin, as the strange but loveable She-Wolf, is a sad yet victorious character. You can also watch her on the first season of Perry Mason as well. Marc Maron as Sam Sylvia is hilarious! Such a jerk, too, but you end up loving him. Chris Lowell is adorable and sad as a millionaire who just wants to fit in somewhere. Other notable performances were ALL of the GLOW women. (Redundant because the W GLOW stands for Women?) I won't list them all because there are too many, but they are all fabulous! One more notable presence in season 3 was Geena Davis. I do love me some GD.
There is also a documentary called GLOW: The Story of the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling. I watched it before I watched the show & I'm glad I did. It was fun trying to place the characters to their real-life counterparts. Not everyone is based on a real person. After all, this is fiction. But it's fiction based on real people, and there is a lot of truth in the telling.
I can't say enough about this show (& the documentary), and three seasons was not NEARLY enough!
5/5*s"
"Get ready to witness the spandex-clad sisterhood of "Glow" – it's like if roller derby and 80s fashion had a wild, neon baby. These fierce ladies prove that wrestling ain't just for the boys – they're breaking bones and hearts with their hilarious antics. It's a girls' night out gone haywire, complete with glitter and drama that'll make your high school reunions seem like kindergarten playdates. So if you're looking for a dose of nostalgia, shoulder pads, and a whole lot of empowerment, "Glow" is the show that pins down girl power in the most entertaining way. "
