Starting over isn’t easy, especially for small-town guy John Nolan who, after a life-altering incident, is pursuing his dream of being an LAPD officer. As the force’s oldest rookie, he’s met with skepticism from some higher-ups who see him as just a walking midlife crisis.

"This is such a fun show. It's got the touch of realism with a tendency to go to the extremes with certain characters and I'm here for it.
The first season of them all learning to be cops is truly iconic. It's worth every watch. All three have such a dynamic relationship while also being a fun clique to enjoy and watch. The different dynamics between them and their "supervisors" makes everything so cool and interesting to see. It's gonna throw you for a loop and when you get to the newest season you're truly gonna wonder how you got there. Every season has something new to propel it forward and you may not always like the plot but you love the characters far too much to stop.
The main character is so much fun and intriguing to watch. Plus, unlike most main characters you'll love this one. He feels real yet not excessively in your face. Then all of the side characters help lock in the story so you never want to stop. Seeing how he interacts with everybody and the subtle changes between them proved the writers are paying attention to relationships and complex characters.
However, when I first tried watching this I stopped before finishing season 1. Then I took another break at season 3 or 4. But it kept getting under my skin and I just had to finish it. Sadly the show is ongoing so I gotta wait for new episodes every week. Yet this is truly worth it. I also adore the new people too. Normally you hate new characters but I say bring them on with this show. They make it work.
Truly and utterly kudos to the writers. I feel like I'm Learning. Being entertained, while also not being preached to (at least not all the time) with Hollywood politics. This shows both sides, and often.

"Loved this show but stopped watching when they kept switching out the characters (season 2)"

"So I NEVER, EVER planned to watch this show. ABC marketed it as a Nathan Fillion fest, and I wasn't down for that. But a clip of it started being shared on Tiktok featuring Alyssa Diaz, ( who is remarkable and deserves buckets of flowers by the way.) So I started to watch it for her. I'm so glad I did. It's well written, balances serious plotlines with humor and compassion, relevant to life today without feeling like an after-school special and I enjoy the character friendships. Love watching Richard T. Jones, Melissa O'Neil, Mekia Cox and the whole cast.
