Jennifer L. Armentrout
From #1 New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout comes book two in her Flesh and Fire series… The only one who can save Sera now is the one she spent her life planning to kill. The truth about Sera’s plan is out, shattering the fragile trust forged between her and Nyktos. Surrounded by those distrustful of her, all Sera has is her duty. She will do anything to end Kolis, the false King of Gods, and his tyrannical rule of Iliseeum, thus stopping the threat he poses to the mortal realm. Nyktos has a plan, though, and as they work together, the last thing they need is the undeniable, scorching passion that continues to ignite between them. Sera cannot afford to fall for the tortured Primal, not when a life no longer bound to a destiny she never wanted is more attainable than ever. But memories of their shared pleasure and unrivaled desire are a siren’s call impossible to resist. And as Sera begins to realize that she wants to be more than a Consort in name only, the danger surrounding them intensifies. The attacks on the Shadowlands are increasing, and when Kolis summons them to Court, a whole new risk becomes apparent. The Primal power of Life is growing inside her, pushing her closer to the end of her Culling. And without Nyktos’s love—an emotion he’s incapable of feeling—she won’t survive her Ascension. That is if she even makes it to her Ascension and Kolis doesn’t get to her first. Because time is running out. For both her and the realms.

"It is books like this that ruin other stories for me. I don’t even know how any book can follow this one while I wait for the next book in this series. From Blood and Ash and ACOTAR are my top two series of all time and this book in particular is a new fave! I may just have to reread it immediately. It’s that good. "
"This is turning into very Persephonie & Hades tale but a bit twisted. There are a lot of suicidal thoughts and tendencies, so if that is triggering for you, don't read this! Sera & Ash fight for each other and fight to keep her alive, even if he takes the embers from her. Personally I think the guy is so focused on her embers and not so much her it's frustrating. Step by step for this couple lol. I personally think she should keep the embers and become the true Primal of Life and Ash stays the Primal of Death! It of course leaves you on a cliff hanger so you will wanna read the next book. I think the Blood & Ash series is a bit better than this but it really is a wonderful side quest to truly love the whole series! "
"I just don’t want it to end. So so good. I can’t wait to read book 3 when it comes out. "

"Please don’t be the end. Write one more. I need more Nyktos in my life. I want to live in this world forever, but mostly don’t want to guess what the next 100-1000 years of the story are. …This goes down as one of my all time favorite series in this genre. "

"I can read a book of just domestic Nyktos, Sera, Nektas, Reaver, Jadis, and everyone in Nyktos's court moments lol. This is one of the reasons I really liked this book the moments where they were a family were nice.

We got to see a lot about the world and how many things in the From Blood and Ash world came about, it was nice to know the truth about stuff in the fbaa world without it being distorted by both sides.

Sera is probably my favorite female character at the moment, I just love her so much and want to sit with her and tell her that she deserves every good thing. I loved her character arc, her wit, and her care for people even though she didn't believe she was worthy of anything good.
Her journey with anxiety and feeling like she wasn't seen really made me emotional because I know how that feels. Her conversation with Nektas something she shared about her <spoiler>suicide attempt</spoiler> gutted me. Her teaching Jadis how to use a fork and her closeness to reaver was everything I needed.

Finding out the reason why Nyktos couldn't love really shocked me and I don't know why. That moment in the book where he tasted love and didn't know what it was made me really sad. Nyktos can be frustrating but that's my boo and riding for him along with Nekatas and most of Nyktos's court tbh.

Nyktos and Sera are a slow burn but they are so worth every minute of it, we see their character and their relationship develop as they try to save the world from the rot and defeat kolis. Sometimes I wished they would just sit down and communicate especially in chapter 28. I liked their banter and bickering even if it did get repetitive at times. That moment during her coronation when Nyktos gave her title was so good I was so happy.

I can't believe I doubted Ectors Loyalty that moment toward the end had me screaming, Attes disappointed me and I can't wait for Kolis to die.

This book has slow moments and plots and there's a lot of repetition with information, it also has those modern phrases that I hate. At this point, I think that's just how JLA writes and I have to get over it. I'm also not sure how I feel about the Sotoria storyline because I don't know how it's going to play into this story.

I think this was a necessary addition to the fbaa/flesh and fire world, I don't know where we go from here. There is so much more story to tell and I don't know how it's going to be done in one book. I'm very interested to see both characters from these two worlds together and interacting. I also want to know how Jadis is and what state she will be in once they find her. Hopefully, we find out in the next fbaa book.

Also if you haven't started the From Blood and Ash series I feel like you should read this series first.

Rating: 4.5/5"
