Adrienne Young
New York Times bestselling author Adrienne Young returns to the world of The Narrows with Saint, a captivating prequel to Fable and Namesake. As a boy, Elias learned the hard way what happens when you don’t heed the old tales.Nine years after his lack of superstition got his father killed, he’s grown into a young man of piety, with a deep reverence for the hallowed sea and her fickle favor. As stories of the fisherman’s son who has managed to escape the most deadly of storms spreads from port to port, his devotion to the myths and creeds has given him the reputation of the luckiest bastard to sail the Narrows. Now, he’s mere days away from getting everything his father ever dreamed for him: a ship of his own, a crew, and a license that names him as one of the first Narrows-born traders. But when a young dredger from the Unnamed Sea with more than one secret crosses his path, Elias’ faith will be tested like never before. The greater the pull he feels toward her, the farther he drifts from the things he’s spent the last three years working for. He is dangerously close to repeating his mistakes and he’s seen first hand how vicious the jealous sea can be. If he’s going to survive her retribution, he will have to decide which he wants more, the love of the girl who could change their shifting world, or the sacred beliefs that earned him the name that he’s known for—Saint.

"So good, I love both POV’s and the mentions of other characters within the fable series, I can’t wait to read Tides and Drift by Adrienne, I can’t wait for it to be available in a physical copy in Canada!"

"This one’s more of a 3.5 for me. Sometimes the story was fun and exciting, but a lot of it was bogged down with the politics. I get that the schemes and machinations are important to the building of Saint’s future empire, but it wasn’t always easy to stay invested in the story… I kept putting it down in favor of lighter reads."
"I am always hesitant to pick up prequels/sequels that focus on different characters, but I was intrigued by Saint’s character in the other stories of the Narrows, and his and Isolde’s story was nearly as beautiful as Fable’s.<br/><br/>However, the plot was not as engaging as in the other books in this series. Saint’s character was so mysterious in the first two books, and from the little bit of backstory we already knew about him, I was expecting a lot more darkness and scheming than there ended up being. I did love the tension and love growing between Saint and Isolde, and I really enjoyed getting to know more about Clove. Once the book hit the 70% mark, things really started picking up, but that’s too much of the book to be slow for me to give it five stars, even if the last 30% was five-star worthy.<br/><br/>One thing that drove me a little crazy is that I’ve listened to this entire series on audio, and while I appreciate that they had different voice actors for Fable, Saint, and Isolde throughout the three books, I could not get over the fact that Isolde’s name was pronounced differently in Saint (iz-old) than it was in Fable & Namesake (iz-old-ee). Maybe it’s just the accent difference for the narrators, but I was really confused as to what was happening for the first couple of chapters from her POV in this book because the pronunciation was so different.<br/><br/>Overall, the story was interesting, and I am walking away feeling like even Adrienne Young’s worst book would still be better than the average author’s due to her eloquent writing style and the way she can completely immerse you in a world.<br/>"
