"There are three rules Brooke Sullivan must follow as a new nurse practitioner at a men's maximum-security prison: 1) Treat all prisoners with respect. 2) Never reveal any personal information. 3) Never EVER become too friendly with the inmates. But none of the staff at the prison knows Brooke has already broken the rules. Nobody knows about her intimate connection to Shane Nelson, one of the penitentiary's most notorious and dangerous inmates. And they certainly don't know that Shane was Brooke's high school sweetheart--the star quarterback who is now spending the rest of his life in prison for a series of grisly murders. Or that Brooke's testimony was what put him there. But Shane knows. And he will never forget"--Page 4 of cover.

"Perhaps a 🌟3.25/5🌟 for me (I’ve rated some of her other books a bit higher in the past), but this story was still satisfying — especially the twists at the end…. And the epilogue (about the son — kinda cliché, yet also PERFECT at the same time, lol). I still look forward to reading more of Frieda McFadden’s #thriller novels."
"I wanted to like this book so much I kept putting off dnf-ing it. The main character is so unlikeable and seems to have no opinion of her own because she’s constantly changing her mind based on what people around her say. The plot was incredibly unbelievable (you’re telling me she didn’t recognize that person?) and the only chapter I genuinely enjoyed was the very last one. There’s much better written thrillers out there."
"This was a super easy read that was hard to put down. Was the main character someone you wanted to slap some sense into? ABSOLUTELY. The book definitely pushes you into thinking you know the twist, and when it happens with 100+ pages to go, you realize it can’t really be THE twist, but no, I didn’t see the ending coming. The epilogue was a little predicable, but the book was overall a good read. "
"Eh. 2 starts only because I continued to turn the pages purely to find out who did it. Plot was rushed. I would have liked to seen these maybe broken up into a series. The ending was a little silly to me. The main character came off ditzy disguised as having ptsd. It’s just not believable. Manipulation, trauma etc can be a little more complex than what was laid out in the book. "

"I was referred to reading this book by my sister. It was a decent thriller where you thought you had it figured out and then the rug got pulled out from under you. The characters are likeable enough but seem very whiny. There is some redundant information they repeat in a few chapters. Some of the events, even though fictitious, don't feel like they would actually occur. Overall, a pretty good read."
