It seems like nothing stands between Scythe Goddard and absolute dominion over the world scythedom. With the silence of the Thunderhead and the reverberations of the Great Resonance still shaking the earth to its core, the question remains: Is there anyone left who can stop him? The answer lies in the Tone, the Toll, and the Thunder.

"Yayyy for the finale. It was good but I’m not sure how to feel about the ending. Goddard rules over all of NorthMerica. Faraday has found Nod and the backup plan but it requires two scythe gems. Lorina, a former Nimbus agent, is chosen by the Thunderhead and takes a team to the Land of Nod to allow the Thunderhead to explore this blind spot. Greyson has been rebranded by the tonists as “The Toll”, a tonist prophet, since he is the only person on the planet who can still talk to the Thunderhead. Goddard sends a scythe to kill Greyson but it doesn’t work; he instead travels the world, wrangling rouge tonists. After 3 years, Rowan and Citra are pulled from the vault, where Rowan is captured by scythes and Anastasia escapes with Jeri. Anastasia joins up with some leftover old guard scythes, trying to decipher a message from the Thunderhead. Goddard is killing everyone and the tonists don’t like that so they start killing everyone too? Anastasia and Jeri barely escape. They meet up with Greyson later who is there to talk some sense into the tonists. They expose Goddard for being the one to perform the first mass gleaning (and cover it up). On Nod, the Thunderhead is building spaceships to allow for escape. With the help of a second Thunderhead the Thunderhead created (Cirrus), most people from the islands leave in the spaceships, even as Goddard injures many trying to shoot them down. Citra dies and Rowan agrees to stay alive for the 117 years it’ll take to reach their destination as long as Citra is revived. Scythe Rand kills Goddard bc she’s secretly in love with Tyger and feels guilty. "

"Wonderful ending to the trilogy! It has become obvious that the Scythedom is no longer serving the intended purpose and something must be done. The Thunderhead, having to find ways to counter it's own rules of non-interference in Scythe business to help humanity start fresh. The book ends with hope for the future of mankind."
"Dang this is one of the best series I've ever read. The ending was surprisingly satisfying for all characters and even the how the world was left even after so much conflict and unexpected twists. It's long but deservedly so so that we can the ending we needed. Masterful storytelling. "

"Unpopular opinion: I didn’t enjoy this book. It just didn’t flow like the others did, maybe because of the change in editors. This series was very good and clean (aside from a few swears, but there’s a lot less swearing then there is in a lot of YA books) and worth the read, but I regret buying them because I don’t think I’d read them again. "
"Loved the series. Cried at the ending. Top 3"

"Honestly, I love the first two books. Especially book 1, and this book is so full in comparison. I found myself skipping to the end because of how long and drug out it was. The completion was beautiful and of course the main characters are still lovable but it was poorly written. Overall I was disappointed "
