"Pride Day 5: I'm actually not really sure about posting this one because it's neither particularly uplifting nor is it targeted toward an explicitly gay audience. Tangerine is Sean Baker mix of comedy and drama shot entirely on an iPhone 5s. What makes this movie special, aside from being pretty good, is that the trans women in it are not only the main characters but actually played by trans women. This may seem like a monumentally low bar to clear... And it is but you'll find few movies with any kind of budget that actually clear it. And the movie shows a lot of empathy for it's characters. Again, not a super high bar that so many movies fumble. Look, I kind of dance around the fact that I'm part of the LGBTQ community without getting too specific but I can tell you that I'm not a trans woman and even if I was I wouldn't feel comfortable making any sweeping statements about what is and is not acceptable or good representation. All I can say is that I think this movie is pretty good and it clears bars most movies just don't bother with so I'm showcasing it."
"I watch this movie every holiday season. It's funny, genuine and touching! Love it!"

"Brilliant movie shot on an iPhone. Very popular at Sundance. Involves the trans community as sex workers"
