The Florida Project

"Not a film I’d be in any rush to watch (especially with it being 2.5 hours long, 😥 with a somewhat abrupt & bittersweet ending), but, WOW, the acting by Brooklyn Prince… (more on that below) This is not your typical, slick, fast-paced Hollywood drama; it’s an #indie (A24) slice-of-life type film where there’s no plot, really, but the subject matter deals with #poverty (living in it, growing up in it), so it makes ya appreciate what ya got — I liked the parts that focused on the adventures & wonder of #childhood (The child actors in this really are precious). ▪️The absolute stand-out star of this film is the precocious six-year-old little girl — played by #award_winning actress Brooklynn Prince, along with veteran actor Willem Dafoe — or as someone in their review on here referred to him as “Willem Dafriend,” which is clever because that sums up his character’s personality in this flick. ▪️BTW, If I still subscribed to 🍏AppleTV+, I’d definitely check out Brooklynn Prince who currently stars alongside other notable actors in a highly-rated crime-drama-mystery TV-series entitled HOME BEFORE DARK — just because I’m curious to see her act in other roles, especially now that she is a bit older."

"THE FRAMING. THE COLORS. The attention to detail is incredible. Sean Baker's slice of life films have a way of allowing you to connect with characters and experiences that you have no personal connection with. The Florida Project follows a group of 3 kids creating their own innocent adventure amidst a chaotic environment in the struggling neighborhoods outside of Disney World. Sean Baker's wide shots and chromatic choices compliment each other perfectly. Colors were dripping off the screen!"

"I left unresolved watching this movie and realized that some lives must stay in this area of somewhere unresolved. "

"If I were to make an attempt at explaining the movie, I'd say it's a coming of age story about two girls making the best of their days, despite living with their single parents at a hotel, constantly struggling to make ends meet. The daily routines of other folks who work or reside at the hotel are shown, which I believe perfectly encapsulates what life in Florida is like for some."
