"A great beginning of the second trilogy of the reboot to Planet of the Apes, as the first minutes are a nod to the first trilogy and how far the setting came to the original film series! Centered at the start of the film with three apes as they work to join the Eagle Clan climbing to what is needed for their ceremonies, only for a conflict to come about as one ape journeys about the new world as we see settings of the original film series start to take place!!"
"This is a great continuation of the reboot that started in 2011, with more to come. Set about 100 years after the reboot started. It’s mind blowing what CGI can do now. The apes are amazing. Freya Allan, Ciri from The Witcher, is really good. It’s not action packed, but an actual character driven movie. But when the action does come it’s thrilling and awesome. "

It’s nice that this movie at least continues the Caesar story. I doubt the new Alien film will continue the story of David.
The movie is about Noe (Owen Teague) who is taught the true ways of Caeser by Raka (Peter Macon). So when Noe is taken and forced to worship Proximus Caeser (Kevin Durand). Who twists Caesar’s words. For his own gain.
Noe sees through Proximus and just wants to rescue his tribe from Proximus. With help of a human he barely trusts. However Noe tries to trust Nova (Freya) Allen since Caeser once trusted humans.
The film isn’t better than the three previous ones. It is much than the sequels to the original movie. As well as better than the Mark Wahlberg film. It can be slow but when there’s action it is well done and exciting."
"This is a #science_fiction movie where basically monkeys are like people and people are like monkeys. (I know there's a greater backstory to appreciate if you've seen the previous Planet of the Apes movies--if you have, this movie may be 5 stars to you.) The story overall is engaging, but I didn't feel that the female human character added much? The rest of the plot could've easily taken place without her, sans the destruction towards the end. I enjoyed the movie overall, though, just thought it could've been more. #sequel #franchise #monkey #ape #humanity #whatisthat #futuristic (kind of...?) #drama #scifi_and_fantasy #bad_gorillas"
"This is a solid addition to what is one of the more underrated trilogies of the last decade. The effects are impressive and the ape faces are so expressive, you forget you're watching what is essentially a fully CGI movie. This was also my first ever 4DX movie experience.
Quick 4DX review: The wind and water effects were surprisingly effective (more a mist than a spray). The puffs of air from the headrest to mimic bullets and arrows eventually grew on me. I could do without the seat spasming like crazy during action scenes but I did like the massage-gun like punch in the back you get when someone would get hit or slapped on the shoulder. "

+ KINGDOM feels like a fresh start to a new prequel trilogy. This is more in tone with RISE in the sense that it goes back to those action-adventure roots without staying in the shallow waters of being primarily a blockbuster romp. It has more balance between being a blockbuster and a straightforward drama like DAWN and WAR. Best of all, unlike RISE the SFX are top-notch throughout, which adds to the believability of the world without letting it overtake the movie. The effects are always in the service of the story and the performances are all wonderfully nuanced. In WAR, the latter part of the story suggested the ideas of religion with The Colonel and how he draws parallels between the Old Testament God of the Bible and the sacrifice of his only son; KINGDOM further explores those ideas by keeping the words of Caesar alive 300 years later and showing how traditions and stories have evolved into belief systems, and how those belief systems are used to guide some people, while it's used to control others. Having insight into the previous events and seeing how these characters respond to its distorted history draws eerie parallels with our current world and how we are influenced by our own history and stories. That was perhaps my favorite thing about this movie and what places the solid foundations for more entries in the franchise. Solid, through-and-through.
- I do wish this had kept the tone a tiny bit more serious and taken advantage of the previous two films more refined sense of atmosphere. As much as I love the Spielbergian (if that is a word) feel to the story, I think the ideas are a bit more mature and could have been more deeply explored if it had stayed more in Matt Reeves territory. It's a small detail, but I felt like it made a key difference and affected the overall tone of the narrative threads.
Still, this is a strong entry and leaves room for a lot of potential going forward."
