"4⭐️ So many top notch reviews (@gabrielle_grosbety looking at you 👀) so the only thing I’ll add is it’s totally worth watching in Japanese with English subtitles to experience the actor’s authentic performances, especially lead Ryuunosuke Kamiki. The pivotal downtown Tokyo scene, Koichi’s scream! Seriously ~ just compare the original Japanese version to the English dub. You’ll feel his deep into your mitochondria and all the way down to your toenails. The dub is almost laughable in comparison.
Also appreciated the little nod to jaws. Such an EXTREMELY cool action scene!! Yeah no boat’s gonna be big enough 😂🦖🌊😱"
"I finally got to see this one after waiting so long for it to be streaming, (Thanks Netflix!) and it was worth the wait. I loved that they were able to capture the feel of the old school Godzilla movies that I grew up with... But on steroids! Beautifully filmed with vibrant colors and some really epic wide shots, but the main difference between this one and the old films is that they finally came up with a story that the viewers can care about, with substance and heart. Godzilla looked great, like a beefed up classic version. The depiction of Godzilla's atomic breath is truly catastrophic to behold. My one and only complaint is that I hated the way they made Godzilla have a slow, robotic death march when he was on land and in other shots he looked agile and lifelike while unleashing his destructive chaos. But overall I thoroughly enjoyed this one. 8.5/10"
"I knew nothing of this movie until I was at the mall and RT’d it when nothing else looked good. Didn’t know it was subtitled until it started. I hit the jackpot. This is so good. Oscar worthy good. A beautiful ode to the original. The direction, cinematography and soundtrack are flawless. And if you’re an OG fan, you must see this in a theater. But be ready to be really scared, awed and even cry. Fantastic "
"I really like this movie! I think it went back to the basics of Godzilla and what his story is truly about and what situation he was birthed from in the first place, I think it was a nice step back and what the franchise needed. But I’m not a mega Godzilla fan but my boyfriend is and we saw this 5 times in the theater and I think that should say everything you need to know. I will say it does kinda drag in the last half so seeing that 5 times got kinda old. "
"Great flick. Not so much a monster movie as it is a view of the ordinary civilians that band together to take down the Godzilla menace. A strong storyline compels better depth than most in the lineage making it much more about courage and redemption than an Atlas sized slug fest. My favorite in this genre. "
