"4⭐️ So everyone made me super curious about this one. Well add me to the plus column because I have to admit .. I liked it.
Though didn’t really see the Die Hard comparisons. Christmas + action does not necessarily equal Die Hard and this movie is no Die Hard but it’s better than most of the sequels, including the airport one. I’d say absent is the wit and humor of DH (in the capable hands of Willis, Rickman and the rest of the stellar cast). But what this does have is plenty of suspense and tension, a fairly riveting plot, strong pacing and some cool action scenes (the freeway sequence especially is wildly inventive and heart-poundingly crazy!). After a slow start it took hold and pretty much held my attention the entire way, though more straightforward and serious in tone than expected.
Danielle Deadwyler and Jason Bateman (who I found quite chilling) are the standouts for me with the rest of the cast adequate fill ins. Taron Egerton was fine. You can tell he closely studied the Tom Cruise method of movie running, but maybe needed a bit more of the Cruise oomph or sardonic Willis charm. I just don’t see him as much of an action hero. Time can prove me wrong on this one.
I won’t need to see it again but time spent wasn’t wasted. This movie pulled off what it was going for ~ an entertaining, tense, moral conundrum, what-would-you-could-you-do, everyman kind of action thriller..with a smidge of a gooey heart-filled center. I mean it is a bit of a throw-back and I’d get on board for more of that. The inconsistencies, plot holes and ridiculous conveniences didn’t bother me and wouldn’t have been out of place in some of the more decent 90s action flicks. I wouldn’t mind a slightly acerbic script though. So using the immortal words of John McClane, “welcome to the party, pal.”"
"Netflix offers up this movie as a contender to the crown of all-time best Christmas/Action movie, trying to dethrone Die Hard... But it doesn't quite get there. Taron Edgerton does a fine job but pales slightly in comparison to Bruce Willis' John McClain. Jason Bateman shines brilliantly as the diabolical villain in this edge of your seat thriller. Once things get set in motion, the tension builds progressively, and then accelerates to a frantic pace. There are only a couple of minor plot holes that are excusable for the sake of the storyline. All in all, it's an enjoyable movie that is also an excellent addition into the Christmas/Action genre. 8.5/10"
"Most of the movie I thought was entertaining and sneaky, but unfortunately the movie wasn't free of dumb moments. For me there were two, the first isolated but the second one was more a plot point that made later events confusing. They don't ~ruin~ the movie but it does take away from some of the really smart plot devices. The subtle hints of things to come and great acting from Taron Egerton - in the case of Jason Bateman it was more voice acting, and it worked perfectly - all this made for a movie I would recommend, down to the last minute I was happy to keep watching. 4/5🧳☕"
"If you’re unto Action packed movie, and literally non stop from the first 5mn, well this is it! Yes it’s a bit far fetched but aren’t they all? And a plus - Jason Bateman is a real bad guy in it and he’s simply amazing! "

"This is your typical crap “action” film… unoriginal plot, characters w/ familiar “struggles” or predictable roles, dialogue that feels contrived, cliches, etc.
I give it an extra 1/2 star on the Letterbox’d app for Bateman. Just cos I like him as an actor and person. But, on here, I’m rounding down to 2 stars.
(How is this rated a 4+ star film on here??😬)"
