"Like the crying game, this is an early movie that stumbles quite a lot: Leon is misgendered a lot by the man who loves him, and sheโs played by a cis man (as you can gather from this list I am not the pickiest when it comes to this element, thereโs so few movies about us as it is, so let me enjoy what I can). Where I love this movie is how tender it is. Sonny cares about everyone. He releases people when they need help, and his reason for the risky, poorly researched heist is to help Leon afford"
"Pride Day 27: Finally got around to checking one of my boxes off by watching I movie I hadn't previously seen. Dog Day Afternoon is a movie in which a man robs a bank for reasons that include paying for his wife's sex reassignment surgery. This is a 70s movie for general audiences so there are definitely some issues including Sunny's wife being consistently misgendered. However, the fact that this even WAS a 70s movie for general audiences starring Al Pacino is pretty wild in and of itself. Overall, I ended up liking it a lot, it's a solid bank heist movie on it's own merits and seems to respect it's queer characters more than you'd expect it to albeit clumsily at times."
