"This movie has been on my watchlist for quite some time now, and I finally found the time to watch it. Alone, of course. I didn't want to subject any of my family or friends to what could possibly be a scarring viewing experience.
I had built it up in my head that this was going to be potentially the most disturbing movie that I've ever seen... But it wasn't. All the reviews that I've previously read assured me that this was an ultra-violent, brutal film. Don't get me wrong, it was truly violent and disturbing, just not to the extreme that I had built up in my head. (Damn, what does that say about me?) I put it on the same level as Saw or Hostel but grittier, with a true life feel to it and with way better make-up effects. The Human Centipede 2 and The Sadness are way more disturbing in my opinion. Martyrs is most definitely not for the squeamish, but if you're a horror fan, give it a try. 8.5/10"
"I think for the most part this movie just isn’t my thing, to me it’s to brutal for brutal sake. I’m sure there’s a bigger meaning to this film but at the end of the day I’m not sure if I care? It seems depressing anyway. I can understand the sick curiosity and even like/love of this movie but I’ll have to pass. Watching it once is good for me. 👍🏻"
"Horrortober 2022 Day 14
Martyrs a film that came out at the tail end of the New French Extremity. It still has one of the most harrowing opening scenes in horror history and for that alone it will always have high points in my book. It’s a very brutal film and and though this is my third watch it honestly doesn’t get any easier. I can see how this film might offend some people for the torture against women but it has a method to it’s madness. There is a whole ideology and philosophical view to everything you see on screen. I can only judge this for what it is. It’s not your normal horror tropes or anything close to it. It’s disgusting repulsive and still brilliant at the same time. It’s true art in the realm of extreme horror which is painful to watch so I honestly feel it’s doing it’s job. What separates this from films like Hostel and Saw is how real the violent acts feel. It’s just one of those films that stay with you. A story built off trauma, guilt, pain, suffering, and discovery."

"I was engaged through this whole movie! I had seen the American version before this, and it doesn't come close! I highly recommend the original. The acting was on par. The writing was simplistic, but yet engaging. The gore was well done with practical effects, and it was done in a way where you didn't want to look at the screen (especially the last torture scene).
