"As someone who dislikes and doesn't use social media, aside from Likewise of course if that counts, I thought I would like this documentary.
Instead of focusing on the rise of social media and it's impact based in facts, an in depth analysis of events, and examinations of multiple first hand accounts, we instead get incredibly anti-tech biased schlock from ex-industry workers and a 'normal' family who's there for some reason.
Whats really crazy to me, is that it tried to end on a happy message, saying that tech isn't bad, but it's just that ads are bad. Not even really mentioning the privacy concerns that might arise when you let an unchecked algorithm that has more information on you than you think is possible roam free. What a bad doc. "
"Reality make’s cyberpunk redundant; we’re already living under the power of this overvalued tech companies. They track our habits to the point where they advertise our thoughts. Pretty good entertainmentwise but no real solutions are posed outside of individual choices. This already showed that even if you don’t participate in social communication applications that you’ll be affected by people who do use them. Makes this feel like a waste of time over all. Also a bit on the nose"
"Most of the things discussed in that movie I am familiar with, as a developer. I was about to get bored, when things went a bit unexpected for me, I realize that there are implications that I really haven’t thought of, even though I’ve been saying for years that regulations for social platforms are seriously lagging behind.
If you are someone who is not in the industry this movie would be definitely educational and the material is important to understand."
"it's okay but very basic, it misses some things and kind of misleads about others... Honestly i killed almost all social media (other than LikeWise obv) in 2007 because, while working in the IT industry, i noticed major negative impacts on users. Recommend BrainCraft's "Attention Wars" on YouTube and "The Great Hack" as a better preliminaries for this topic."
