The Strangers: Chapter 1

"This may not have been everyone’s cup of tea, and I do not like these types of horror movies, creepy, eerie, freaky and gory but I honestly did not mind this one at all. Quite shocked to learn that every 26 seconds there’s a violent crime in the US. That’s absolutely insane. "

"Really? I genuinely don’t understand how this made it to theaters. I had such hope for this because of it being a remake of a classic, but no. Chapter 1 of how many? Don’t pay for this. "

"2.5 stars rounded up because I enjoyed how this started and as always Madelaine Petsch! Wealthy, city-based transplants Maya and Ryan find themselves in peril when they enter a remote Airbnb in the middle of nowhere. What starts off unassumingly and even lovey-dovey becomes anything but, instead replaced by undying eeriness from your greatest nightmares. Maya and Ryan are officially being murderously hunted down by a group of masked strangers who have a vendetta against types like them. It was a bit slow moving and relied on a slightly minimalist storyline that made it drag a bit more than I would’ve liked. I thought the beginning was good and suspenseful, but then it moved into endless, repetitive nothingness happening for scenes on end. It lacked energy and excitement, but I thought the process of discovery of being virtually alone in a new place was well-done. They’re way out of their more predictable, day-to-day element, which puts their adaptability, survival tactics, and grit to the ultimate test. Will they sink or will they swim? "

"Waste of my time... I enjoyed the first two movies of 'The Strangers' franchise, but this one didn't meet the mark. The acting wasn't good, and the writing was bad. The decisions made by the protagonists were dumb (except for two), and nothing really happened throughout the movie. In fact I got bored... I wouldn't recommend watching it. No one asked for this movie, and I really don't want a Chapter 2..."

"This is a much lesser version of the 2008 original. The only thing that was on par with that one was masked intruders. They were still creepy and mysterious. They telegraph all of the jump scare amd make this couple so passive with no survival instinct. Stupid decision after stupid decision to keep the plot going. Apparently they have already made the other 2 movies and are in post production. There really is no reason for this movie to exist. This was really boring and added nothing to the series.
